Connecting
Artists, Researchers
and Producers

sound:frame operates at the intersection of art, technology, and science, and is grounded in an interdisciplinary network of artists, researchers, institutions, and producers.
It gained international recognition as a European festival for audiovisual and immersive expressions, significantly contributing to Vienna’s emergence as a key hub for audiovisual art and media-based research.
Since its inception in 2007, sound:frame has established and continuously expanded a global network of artists and experts working across audiovisual art, immersive media, digital technologies, and transdisciplinary research.

Since 2017, sound:frame has operated as an internationally networked platform for artistic research, art&technology and immersive art.
sound:frame develops and realizes exhibitions, events, and festival programs, as well as individually commissioned artworks and discursive formats.
In addition, sound:frame works across roles as consultant, curator, and organizer, fostering dialogue and collaboration between art, technology, and science.

In 2021, the platform launched a new festival format: Civa – Contemporary Immersive Virtual Art.
Since its inception, Civa has been dedicated to strengthening the potential of artistic practices in dialogue with science, technology, and global society.
The Civa media art festival highlights the interplay between contemporary technologies, realities, and experiences across digital, physical, and hybrid spaces.

Laboratory for the Advancement
of Interdisciplinary Artistic
and Cultural Projects

Network

We value our strong community and thrive on collaboration within our far-reaching international network.
Together with partners around the world, we create platforms and stages for artistic research and interdisciplinary projects, fostering exchange across artistic, technological, and scientific fields.

IMMERSIVE ART

sound:frame and Civa highlight current developments in art, technology, and media, presenting interdisciplinary and immersive works across exhibitions, live environments, and discursive formats.
We are particularly interested in innovative approaches to audiovisual live performances, artistic practices involving AI and machine learning, quantum science and technologies, XR and virtual production, as well as stage, display, and experience design.

INTERDISCIPLINARY COPRODUCTIONS

Together with a wide range of international partner institutions, we invite artists and researchers from diverse core disciplines to collaborate and realize new interdisciplinary works.
Through regular commissions, we create lab-based environments that function as experimental breeding grounds for emerging artistic practices, research-driven approaches, and critical discourse.

Digital Transformation

We believe that art is a vital force in accompanying, questioning, and shaping emerging technologies.
Artistic practice plays a crucial role in guiding digital transformation toward directions that benefit society, foster critical reflection, and generate positive impact for our shared future.

Immersive art
as a way of looking at the world

Together with artists, experts, scientists, and institutions, we engage in critical dialogue on emerging futures, technological transformations, and their societal implications.
A strong focus on artistic approaches and strategies lies at the core of our work. Through continuous exchange and collaborative experimentation we address structural, conceptual, aesthetic, and social questions.
